Esterina's story-

Esterina and her family moved to Australia in 2015 and to Geraldton in 2023.  Esterina is originally from the Island of Borneo, Sabah, Malaysia.  Esterina used to work as an RN and a midwife there.

Since moving to Geraldton Esterina spent her time raising her children and supporting her husband.

Esterina joined SMYL to improve herself being with English, confidence and social skills. Esterina is a bright light in the class always smiling and wiling to learn and support others around her learning English.

Esterina searched and applied for jobs in class – and was offered a position as a pathologist.  Esterina is very excited about this next chapter in her life, she is excited for the training and experience.

Esterina sent a thank you email to her trainer:

“This class has honestly been such a wonderful journey for me. It’s not just about learning business and work skills, but about feeling supported and welcomed every time I step in. Cindy has played a huge part in that – she’s not only an amazing trainer, but also a kind and considerate person who is always there whenever we need her. She treats everyone equally, no matter our backgrounds, and that really made me feel comfortable and encouraged to keep coming back. To me, she’s more than a trainer – she’s also been a friend, a counsellor, and a guide.

The whole class environment has been so positive, warm, and welcoming.  It really gave me the motivation and confidence I needed while looking for a job. I’m just very grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.  I’ll always be grateful for this experience, and I’m glad if sharing it can help encourage someone else.  Thank you again for giving me the chance to be part of something positive."

Brodie's story-

Following a difficult period in his life, Brodie joined the SEE Program determined to improve his work skills to help him return to employment.

Through a supportive and flexible learning environment, Brodie found a renewed sense

of purpose. He appreciated the dynamic classroom, which Brodie described

as “refreshing” and unlike anything he had experienced before.

Shane's story-

Shane first started the SEE program in 2022.

Shane's primary goal has always been to get full-time employment, but also to learn about working in business.

He enrolled in Certificate II in Retail Services when he first started studying with SMYL.

He attended consistently and showed an easy-going nature that was friendly.  While he struggled with some social skills initially, he was able to develop a more professional attitude and improved his empathy towards his peers.

He completed the Certificate II in Retail Services in 2024 and continued onto a Certificate II in Workplace Skills.

He remarked, "I feel like the more skills I have, the more employable I’ll be."

In December 2025, Shane completed his Certificate II in Workplace skills.

He is planning to continue his learning journey and his search for full-time work.

He is now enrolling in the Certificate II in Community Services through the SEE program at SMYL in Bunbury.

Congratulations Shane, very well done.
